Nothings The Rule are a loud Boston-based three-piece I’ve known about for some time now. They sound like a more aggressive, punk U2. They’re getting tons of rave reviews and I’ve been anxious to share my thoughts on their lead single off their EP. I heard it a while back and give it a listen whenever I get the chance…
It’s called ‘One Can Never Win’.

With an instrumentally cheery intro, ‘One Can Never Win’ is infectious, the rhythm guitarist driving the melody with vigor straight to the end of the song. The vocals have a punk charm, with a “who cares” dynamic and a multi-faceted vitality that shows itself in transitions between verse and chorus. This song is filled with energy set aflame twice over, making it ready for concerts to 50,000, complete with out-of-tune singing (from the audience), tons of crowd-surfing and just general music-induced madness.

Along with drums providing unshakable foundations, it has a bass that is meshed thoroughly within the riffs, giving the band an obtrusive rock’n’roll edge, and an overall coolness that keeps you wanting to hear more.

They’re exceptionally indie…

And I’m looking forward to what they do next!
